Recent readings put Reno near 102.3 and Carson City near 101.6, meaning groceries cost roughly 1 to 2 percent more than the national average in each. Los Angeles comes in near 104.1, and San Francisco near 116.6, which is a meaningful gap. Statewide, cost-of-living comparisons put California about 12 percent more expensive than Nevada overall, with groceries roughly 8 percent higher in California once you average the whole state. In short, Northern Nevada groceries sit close to the national norm, while California's biggest metro areas sit clearly above it.
