What's Happening in Northern Nevada: Late-September Events

Published September 14, 2026  ·  By Dennis Lindsay
A Northern Nevada main street in late September with string lights over an evening market and the Sierra Nevada glowing amber in the distance.

This is the third of our weekly roundups of what's happening in Northern Nevada, built to show you what life looks like after the move from California. Every event below was verified for this post, with its name, date, and location. The week of September 21 through 27 is the last full week of summer, and Northern Nevada goes out swinging: a rally that rolls through three towns, Nevada's capital wrapping up its farmers market season, a legendary arts faire in the Carson Valley, and Oktoberfest with a mountain view.

Reno & Virginia City: The Street Vibrations Fall Rally

The big one this week is the Street Vibrations Fall Rally, which runs Thursday, September 24 through Saturday, September 26 across Reno, Carson City, and Virginia City. If you've never seen it, it's a rolling block party of motorcycles and music that takes over all three towns at once. The street festival in Virginia City runs Thursday, September 24 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday night brings a Lynyrd Skynyrd headline concert in Reno (ticketed separately). Watching as a spectator is free: expect street vendors, live music, and thousands of bikes parked along the curbs.

Carson City: Music, a Community Walk, and the Final Farmers Market

Monday, September 21 is Belize Independence Day, and Carson City's Adventure Onn Event Space marks it with a free celebration featuring Healing Thru Rhythm at 6:30 p.m. It's a low-key way to start the week and meet people.

Friday night, September 25, Wild Night, a Van Morrison tribute band, plays the Nashville Social Club at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday morning, September 26, the Walk/Run to Remember starts at 8 a.m. at Bob McFadden Plaza, a community event that's easy to join even if you're new in town.

Saturday is also the final Carson City Farmers Market of the 2026 season, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Mills Park. If you've been meaning to stock up on local produce, this is your last Saturday for it. Then on Sunday, September 27, JesusFest wraps the weekend at Mills Park at 3 p.m., free to attend.

The Carson Valley: The Genoa Candy Dance

Down the road from Minden and Gardnerville, the town of Genoa hosts the annual Candy Dance on Saturday and Sunday, September 26 and 27. It's the Carson Valley's biggest arts and crafts event of the fall: more than 400 vendors selling arts, crafts, activities, and food, plus the traditional dinner dance on Saturday night. It has anchored the last weekend of September in this valley for generations, and it's an easy, charming day trip from anywhere in the region.

Lake Tahoe: Oktoberfest at Palisades and a Race at Northstar

Start the week up the mountain on Monday, September 21: the Karpiel Downhill Race runs at Northstar California from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with mountain bikers racing the resort's downhill course as fall colors creep in.

Then Saturday, September 26, the 18th annual Oktoberfest at Palisades Tahoe takes over The Village at Palisades Tahoe in Olympic Valley from noon to 6 p.m. Think authentic beer and food, live music, traditional games, and plenty of family-friendly fun, all with the Sierra as the backdrop. It's the kind of after-work-easy weekend event that makes you wonder why you waited so long to move here.

Welcoming You Like a Neighbor

That's the week: a rally through three towns, a farewell farmers market, a century-old valley tradition, and Oktoberfest by the mountains. If you're researching the move, this is what the rhythm of a Northern Nevada fall feels like. Take a look at the community guide to see which town fits you best, browse homes for sale by area, or just reach out and we can talk it through over the phone.
